Feeding Habits
General Feeding Habits
Ailurus fulgens feeds primarily on bamboo, but also eats fruits, roots, acorns, tree bark, and grasses. Occasionally it will eat young birds, fish, eggs, and rodents. The red panda is an omnivore, and a secondary consumer. It is considered a secondary consumer, because even though it mainly eats bamboo, the occasional carnivore's meal classifies it as a secondary consumer.
Niche
The red panda's role is to consume berries, mushrooms, tree bark, and bamboo. It serves as prey to larger animals, such as the snow leopard, Siberian tiger, and marten.
